Karachi (28.09.2012): The Election Commission of S.I.T.E. Association of industry led by Mr. Sikandar Imran has declared Dr. Arshad A. Vohra, Mr. Naseem Anwar and Dr. Qazi Ahmed Kamal as Chairman, Senior Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively of the Association for the year 2012-13.
The announcement was made at the 48th Annual General Body Meeting of the Association held today under the chairmanship of outgoing Chairman Muhammad Irfan Moton.
Leader of BMG Mr. Siraj Kassam Teli, Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, Mr. Haroon Farooki, Mr. M. Tariq Yousuf, Mr. Sikandar Imran, Mr. Younus M. Bashir and other senior members present on the occasion of AGM congratulated newly elected office bearers on being elected unopposed. They all have high expectations from them and particularly Dr. Arshad A. Vohra with rich experience of representing private sector from different platforms of trade bodies. They reposed trust in his abilities to steer the S.I.T.E. Association of Industry in resolution of the issues faced by the industry in the present turmoiled economy.
Dr. Arshad A.Vohra a prominent industrialist holding Bachelor in Chemical Engineering Degree from NED University, Karachi, Master of Science in Polymer Fiber from Manchester, England and PHD in Textile Technology from Manchester, England. He is Group Technical Director & Share Holder of M/s. Universal Chemical Industries (Pvt) Ltd, M/s. Moonlight Industries, M/s. Sino Pak International Trading Corporation & Moonlight Apparel Industries. He has also been the Central Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (2005-2006) Regional Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Sind Balochistan Zone (1995-1996, 1998-1999 & 2003-2004). He has been Chairman of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry earlier in 2001-2002 and Chairman of Different Sub-Committees of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry & All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association.
The outgoing Chairman Mr. Muhammad Irfan Moton thanked all the senior members as well as the Office Bearers and members of his Executive Committee for the whole heartedly cooperation extended to him during his tenure as the Chairman of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry. He highlighted the problems and difficulties faced by the industry during his tenure specially in relation to law & order problems, energy crisis, infrastructure problems and the steps taken to resolve these issues. He welcomed the incoming Chairman, Dr. Arshad A. Vohra, the new Office Bearers and the members of Executive Committee and assured them of whole hearted backing and cooperation to make their year successful.
The new Chairman, Dr. Arshad A. Vohra thanked the Patron-in-Chief Mr. Siraj Kassam Teli and the Chairman, Sindh Board of Investment Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala and all the members of the incoming Executive Committee for the confidence reposed in him by electing him the Chairman of this prestigious Association of Industry.
He warned the members of the difficult time, ahead in the aftermath energy and law & order issues across the country. He said that he would try to capitalize the merit of the oldest and biggest industrial estate of the country. He said that the biggest revenue generator of taxes among industrial estates needs infrastructure rehabilitation and improvement. He identified the resources possibly to come from discretionary grants and contingency amounts from the offices and institutions namely President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor of Sindh and Local Government. He said that the old industrial estate should not become analogy of being claimed as old civilization. The infrastructure is to be upgraded and rehabilitated, one of the factors for reducing cost of doing business.
He said that industrial cost structuring needs improvement by policy support of the government. Fiscal, monitory, tariffs and taxation needs rationalization.
Talking about the taxation measures he said that E-filling system should be negotiated on continuous basis to make it inductive for increasing the documentation. He also said that the efforts of FBR should focus on increasing the net instead of concentrating on the tax compliant identified club to generate more taxes.
He further opined that S.I.T.E. Association of Industry representing the major industry of Pakistan can help in appropriate decision making by different public institution in providing the inputs for smooth conducting of economy in the larger interest of the country. He said that the recent agitations against electricity price hikes without involving the major customers industry is an example to support the need of providing presence of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry on the boards of KESC, PPIB, PEPCO, SBP, NEPRA & OGRA & PTA.
