Lahore (PR): The new trend and threat of Sheesha Cafes are opening in various cities of Punjab like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Okara, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, businesspersons are spending million of Rs. to open cafes. About 300 hundred sheesah cafes were operating in Lahore, after awareness campaign and government’s action, many cafe houses were closed but some are still operating under political supervision. Renowned Consultant, Anti Drugs/Narcotics Campaign Syed Zulfiqar Hussain on a programme presented brief report on Sheesha Cafes – A Landmark of Drug Addiction at GC University Lahore, The programme was organized by Ravian Forensic Society GC University in collaboration with Youth Council for Anti Narcotics (YOCFAN). Dr. Islam Ulla Khan, Dean Science and Technology presided over the programme. Dr. M. Akhyer Farrukh, Advisor Ravian Forensic Society and Secretary YOCFAN and Habib Butt from Oslo Norway were present on the occasion.
Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said that Sheesha cafes are just like “Drug Consumption Rooms” (DCRs). DCRs are a new threat to our youth which results in increased in the trend of drug addiction. Sheesha Clients mixe alcohol, Pepsi and energy drink in water and use Chars on chelam with small fire etc. during smoking session, he added. He further said that every recent study has found that sheesha smoke contains quantities of the chemicals that lead to heart disease, cancer and addiction in cigarette smoker. Dr. M. Akhyer Farrukh, Advisor Ravian Forensic Society said that our department is already working with different organizations regarding reduction of drug demand.
