75 organizations clinch environment excellence awards


Karachi. Seventy five companies were awarded the 10th Annual Environment Excellence Awards (AEEA) by National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) for showing best environmental performance at an impressive ceremony held at a local hotel. Senator A Haseeb Khan, Commissioner Karachi Shoib Siddiqui, Former Federal minister of petroleum Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, Consul General Yamen  Dr.Ikhtiar Baig, Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country head IUCN,  presented awards to officials of award winning companies and appreciated  efforts of the industries and corporate sectors for protection of the environment and corporate social responsibility.

More than 140 companies submitted their nominations out of which 75 were awarded.
The top ten award recipient companies are: Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd., English Biscuit Manufacturers Ltd., Rafhan Maize Products Company Ltd., Clariant Pakistan, Pak Arab Refinery Ltd. Lotte Chemical Pakistan Ltd., Aga Khan University Hospital, Lucky Cement Ltd., Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd., and Pfizer Pakistan Ltd.

Other organizations which received awards are: Al-Rahim Textile Industries, Anis Associates, Asli Punjab Pumps Bestway Cement, CRLF Crown Group, Dawlance, Descon Engineering, ECO Bags, EFU General Insurance, Engro Polymer & Chemical, Engro Powergen Qadirpur, Fatima Fertilizer Company, Fauji  Fertilizer Company, Fauji Cement Company, Fuaji Fertilizer Bin Qasim, GE(11)O& M Balloki, Glaxosmithkline Pakistan,  Habitt, Interdesign FMC, International Power, Islamabad Serena Hotel, KAPCO Kot Addu Power Company, Kay & Emms, KSB Pumps Co., Linde Pakistan, M. Muhammad Shafi & Company,  MESEC, Murree Brewery Co.,  National Refinery, Packages Limited, Pakistan Cables, Pakistan International Container Terminal, Pakistan Oilfields, Pakistan Telecommunication Company, Pepsi Cola International, Philips Electrical Industries of Pakistan, Preimer Cable, Procter & Gamble Hub Plant Pakistan, Qarshi Industries, Reko Pharmacal, Roots  School System, Sapna Beauty Institute, Siddiq Leather Works, Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company, Sindh Abadgar Sugar Mills, Sui Southern Gas Company, Karachi Electric Supply Company, Total Oil Pakistan, Total Parco Pakistan, Track Trench & Towers Construction, Waste Busters, Water Regime, Wyeth Pakistan and Yunus Textile Mill.

3 media awards were also awarded as part of the proceedings. Rizwan Ja’far, President Youth Parliament and anchor of Aaj TV’s program ‘Sawal hai Pakistan ka’, Nawaz Khoro, news editor, Pakistan Press International (PPI), and Rana Jawed, reporter at Daily Dunya Karachi.

The jury comprised of environmental experts including Shamsul Haq Memon, Consultant Sindh Coastal Authority and CEO Environment Management Consultant, Nadeem Arif. NFEH has been organizing AEEA since 2004 with support of international environmental protection organizations and NGOs.

The award has been instituted to recognize and promote the organizations which made an outstanding contribution to sustainable development and economic growth of the country. These companies are working tremendously towards achieving economic and social development without harming the environment and natural resources.
