Afia Movement patron calls on JI leaders, seeks support for Dr Siddiqui’s release



KARACHI: Jun 27, 2012: Afia Movement leader and sister of Dr Afia Siddiqui, a Pakistani national, who had been imprisoned for 86 years in the United States, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui called Jamaat-e Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti yesterday at Idara-e Noor-e Haq.

JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui and Information Secretary Zahid Askari and Afia Movement Coordinator Hafeez Khatak were also present on the occasion.

She appreciated JI for their support regarding release of Dr Siddiqui from US prison. She informed them about launching of a campaign under the title of ‘Free Dr Afia’ and in this regard, post cards bearing a caption, ‘Independence Day Appeal to Free Dr Afia’ would be dispatched to the US through State Department on US Independence Day on July 4 so that Dr Siddiqui might be released.

On the occasion, JI Karachi Chief lauded Afia Movement for their struggle for release of Dr Siddiqui and assured that JI would extend full support to the Movement till release of Dr Siddiqui.
He said that the issue of Dr Siddiqui was a national issue and in this regard, the entire nation should raise voice united.
