KARACHI: The Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine has grown to become Pakistan’s premier dental institute in the private sector. It now ranks among the top institutions of its kind in Asia. This achievement has been attained through consistent hard work and sustained efforts of the faculty, the cooperation of students, their parents, and the guidance and patronage of the University of Karachi.

These sentiments were expressed by the Principal Prof. Dr. Mohammad Altamash SI in his address at the AIDM convocation held yesterday. He said AIDM, besides promoting higher education, was also firmly committed to social welfare activities.

Provincial Senior Minister for Education & Literacy Sindh, Mr Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who was the chief guest at the convocation ceremony, said the youth of Pakistan are its future hope because young people have a vast reservoir of energy and idealism. He urged them to strive to eradicate the twin curse of disease and poverty and thus make Pakistan a great nation.

The senior minister said he was pleased to learn that besides the AIDM’s BDS program, it was successfully running FCPS postgraduate fellowship programs in Operative Dentistry and Orthodontics, and planned to start an FCPS program in Prosthodontics. He added that the PMDC has further granted permission to start MDS, M.Sc and M.Phil postgraduate masters programs in basic sciences and clinical subjects, which further attests to the fact that AIDM is the foremost dental institution of Pakistan.

Mr Khuhro concluded his speech by quoting Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah who said: “The price of greatness is a sense of responsibility.” He said Pakistan is a nation with its own distinct sense of traditions, history and social values. He urged the AIDM students and faculty to always remember this, and while preserving these values, move shoulder-to-shoulder with thedistributes Gold medals and  awards to the to the graduate students
