Formal inauguration was done by His Excellency Mr. Khair-ul-Nazran Abdul Rahman, Consul General of Malaysia who in his opening remarks said; “Malaysia and Pakistan have been friends and partners since we established our relations back in 1957. Malaysia is appreciative of Pakistan for being one of the earliest countries in the globe that recognized Malaysia’s independence in 1957. Since then we have been collaborating in various spectrums of bilateral and multilateral activities, which do not only confine to our political and economic spheres, but also on other areas of strategic importance particularly defence, education, tourism and technical assistance.
I would like to enlighten that our bilateral trade has been encouraging in the past few years. In 2017 bilateral trade increased by 3.5% to RM5.76 Billion from RM 5.56 Billion in 2016. Palm Oil and Palm products remain Malaysia’s major export to Pakistan with an estimated intake of 1.02 million tonnes of Malaysian palm products in 2017. During the period of 2017 Pakistan was fourth largest importer of Palm Products after India, European Unition and China. Pakistan also emerged as an important market for Palm Kernel Cake which is used as an ingredient for animal fats. In 2017 Pakistan imported 0.3 tonnes of Palm Kernel Cake and was fourth behind New Zealand, European Union and South Korea. I would like to encourage Pakistan to engage Malaysia more in its economic activities. We both have similarities and our chemistries also match. Both countries have new governments. We Malaysians want a new Malaysia that upholds the principle of fairness, good governance, integrity, and rule of law. We want Malaysia to be friend of all enemy of none. We Malaysians feel that Pakistan is on same direction too, CG said.
