KARACHI (PR): This is with reference to the malicious propaganda of Mr. Pervez Vistro published in Daily Awami Awaz on 30-07-2012 and tagged and shared by Mr. Abdul Hameed Bhutto on facebook.
Culture Department wants to bring this fact on record that “Endowment Fund for Needy Writers, Poets & Artists” is a novel initiative of present regime, led by Pakistan People’s Party. Minister Culture Ms. Sassui Palijo played instrumental role to get this fund approved and functionalized. During last 15 months, 303 beneficiary poets, writers and artists have cumulatively received Rs. 22.8 Million (rupees two crores and 28 lacs) which is a record financial assistance in the history. We have yet to find this type of fund or financial assistance in any other province of Pakistan or any other country. The department has complete list of 303 beneficiaries, along with the amount given to each and cheque no. and date, which can be shared with everyone at an appropriate time.
Regarding assistance to renowned scholar and poet, Mr. Shamshairul Haq Haidri, we wish to inform all concerned that Culture Department is well aware of its responsibilities. We keep assisting our heroes like Mr. Haidri. However, as per policy we generally do not make everything public, unless it becomes extremely necessary and expedient. The department had assisted Mr. Haidri with a total amount of Rs. 5 lacs, through cross cheque in two installments (27/07/2011 and 22/05/2012). Minister Culture and Secretary Culture and other officials of Culture Department remained in regular contact with Mr. Haidri and kept visiting him on different occasions. On Saturday, July 28, on the request of the family of Mr. Haidri, we decided to shift him to Agha Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi. While we are posting this information on web, officials of Culture Department, in company with the family, are in Park Lane Hospital and AKUH Karachi to facilitate shifting of Mr. Haidri from one hospital to another. All expenses to be incurred on Mr. Haidri’s medical assistance will be borne by Government of Sindh, Culture Department.
In Culture Department, there is a notified Management Board of the Fund, which considers applications financial assistance on merits and requirements of each case. A prescribed application form has to be filled up and necessary medical documents to be attached therewith, for applying financial assistance under the fund. We always assist the deserving and genuine people and they do appreciate and acknowledge the services of Government of Sindh, Culture Department. Unfortunately, those who do not deserve financial assistance or those who do not submit application with sufficient proof of need, are not considered for assistance. Generally these non-deserving people raise hue and cry against the department unnecessarily.
We wish to further clarify that there is another fund titled “Legends Trust” which functions under Governor’s Secretariat for the similar purpose. We expect our friends to kindly raise similar demands for financial assistance from the Legends’ Trust Fund as well. That is also public money given by Government of Sindh.
