Karachi (PR): The Czech Republic has organized five delegations to Pakistan in the recent past and bilateral trade will receive a further boost with the appointment of a commercial counselor in the Pakistan mission in Prague. This was stated by Mr. Jiri Nestaval, President of the CSOK Chamber of Commerce and leader of the Czech delegation during a visit to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office.

The Czech delegation was received by Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik, the President of FPCCI. Also present on the occasion were former FPCCI President Mr. S.M. Muneer and FPCCI Vice President Mir Naveed Jan Baloch. While welcoming the Czech delegation, Mr. Zubair Malik said that Expo Pakistan is an ideal opportunity to increase trade between the two countries. Pakistan and Czech Republic enjoy good relations, but trade remains low, at the level of around $45 million. Trade is concentrated in traditional items such as textiles and lather, but we should also explore other areas like marble, granite, sports goods and surgical instruments. In particular, there could be collaboration in gemstones and jewelry, because Czech Republic is a leader in high quality cutting and polishing. Similarly, Pakistan has a large variety of fruits and vegetables that present opportunity for canning, processing and preservation. There was also potential for furthering the export of Halal food and rice.

While responding to the President’s remarks, Mr. Nestaval said that the Czech Republic was keen to look at collaboration in energy with Pakistan. He noted the President’s suggestion to hold joint events in Pakistan and Prague supported by FPCCI and the CSOK Chamber and appreciated the President’s assurance that all efforts to further bilateral trade would be fully supported from the FPCCI side.
