Karachi (PR):  Trade Development Authority of Pakistan held a special seminar as a Curtain Raiser for the newly granted EU GSP Plus status to Pakistan in a local hotel today. The chief guest was Secretary TDAP, Madam Rabiya Javeri Agha. This seminar is the first step towards information dissemination and facilitating the exporters while implementing this scheme. The seminar was started off with a note of thanks by secretary TDAP. She informed the participants about the way map designed by TDAP for the implantation of this scheme. The map starts off with the setting up of a help desk in TDAP Head office Karachi, only to facilitate the exporters. She further added on that despite the resource constraints, TDAP will equip all its regional offices with better resource, so they can also help & facilitate the exporters at nationwide level. She announced the developing of a Mobile Application especially for the EU GSP Plus scheme on the iOS, Android & Windows platform. She assured the participants of the maximum support which TDAP can extend in the implementation of this scheme.

A special introduction and benefits of EU GSP Plus were defined by Mr Bashir Ali Muhammad from Gul Ahmed Textiles. He gave a suggestion to all chambers & associations to establish a GSP cell and coordinate with TDAP and Ministry of Commerce to address any issues in regards to GSP Plus.

Following it, the Head WTO Cell of TDAP, Mr Mujeeb Ahmed Khan gave a detailed presentation on GSP & GSP Plus, covering wide aspects of this issue for all sectors that will be benefitting from it. He informed about legal bindings and obligations for implementation of this scheme & the details of all the conventions, which all countries granted GSP Plus status need to oblige. He emphasized on the fact, that besides all the energy crisis and problems facing by manufacturing sectors in Pakistan, this scheme provides a vast portfolio to perform and to triplicate the exports from Pakistan in next 3 years.

The last segment of seminar was composed of Q&A session with the team of experts as panelists. The panelists were; Mr Tippu Sultan (Head Trade Research, Younus Group), Mr Mujeeb Ahmed Khan (Head WTO Cell, TDAP) & Mr Bashir Ali Muhammad (Chairman Gul Ahmed Textile).
