Canada (PR): Scintillating Shanzay Hayat of New York walked away with the prestigious Miss Pakistan World 2013 crown in the pageant show held at the Red Rose Convention Centre in Mississauga last week.
Hayat, the 23-year-old Pakistani beauty of the West, completely dominated the glittering evening and beside Miss World Pakistan, also won Miss Talent, Miss Popularity as well as Miss Perfect Ten titles.
Mississauga’s Asiya Flower was declared the first runner-up while Oshawa’s Gizella Mandi was adjudged the second runner-up.
Brampton’s 20-year-old Syeda Naqvi earned the third runner-up spot while the fourth runner-up title went to Karishma Khogiani, who also won the Miss Photogenic award.
In the men’s competitions also held simultaneously, Shayan Farooqi of Taxes was handsome enough to win the Mr Pakistan 2013 title. Javed Maher was first runner-up whereas second runner-up trophy went to Talha Ahmad.
“Shanzay was amazing,” Sonia Ahmed, president of Toughgate Global Inc, which organizes the event, told SAF. “She was very well prepared, we could see her hard work. From her shoes to outfits to her performances… she was outstanding and that’s why she won four titles.
“What can I say about Shayan, he was the best among men. Both (Shanzay and Shayan) are well deserved winners,” said Ahmed.
Nauman Ijaz, the famous actor from Pakistan’s entertainment industry, was the special guest on the occasion and presented trophies to the winners in presence of more than 500 audience members.
It was the 11th annual Miss Pakistan World 2013 pageant and the third annual Mr Pakistan World 2013 pageant show.
Shanzay will now be representing Pakistan in the upcoming Miss Earth 2013 pageant set to be held in the Philippines later this year.
“I am extremely honoured to be crowned Miss Pakistan 2013. It comes with a great responsibility, not just to represent Pakistan globally, but also to highlight Pakistan in a positive way.
“I am confident of my capabilities that I can contribute to the betterment of my country. Now I want to show the world that there’s more to Pakistan than what is being portrayed,” said Hayat while speaking to SAF.
Born in Islamabad, Hayat is the daughter of former Pakistan Air Force pilot. Her family migrated from Pakistan when she was 10. During the last 13 years, the family has lived in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Northern Ireland. Currently they call New York City their new hometown.
“I did a lot to prepare for the pageant show. From learning about Pakistan, its history, culture and current affairs to getting to my dresses to perfecting my dance routine. I also did some soul searching to learn who really am I and what am I capable of,” said Hayat.
About her experience in Toronto, the New York-based model said it is great to be in the GTA where she has won the title, learnt so much and made new friends.
“My first visit to Toronto is a great experience. I won my title here. I also made some lovely new friends. They are fantastic people. I got the opportunity to mingle with the crowd… their feedback is very positive and everyone wished me the best in my future endeavors,” said Hayat.
She said the competition was tough as everyone was very talented and had a lot to offer.
“The good thing about this competition was that all of us (contestants) got along really well, we all bonded and had a blast behind the scenes.
“They are my Miss Pakistan World family,” said Hayat.
On the occasion, the special guest and actor Nauman Ijaz, who especially came for the event, thanked Sonia Ahmed and her team for inviting him and presenting a successful show.
He said the show has a lot of potential to go a long way and urged the youth to come forward and play their role in progressing and promoting their country, its culture and heritage through entertainment.
The masters of ceremonies were Gule Sheikh, the first Pakistani female fitness competitor and winner of a fitness model category in bodybuilding, and Dr Azeem Pasha from Chicago.
Among other guests were Misbah Iqbal and Farah Mahmood, Mrs Pakistan World 2007 & 2013 respectively, and Naila Khan, Miss Pakistan World 2009.
Established by Sonia Ahmed in 2002, this year’s Miss Pakistan World pageant marks its 11th edition while the Mr Pakistan pageant celebrated a successful third show.

The situation and mindset in Pakistan is now changing, says Sonia Ahmed, founder of Miss Pakistan World.
“It’s a very positive sign that the situation and mindset is changing in Pakistan,” said Ahmed while speaking to SAF. “In the beginning we were scared to invite big names like Nauman Ijaz. But then we could not believe when he accepted our invitation.”
She said it’s a visible sign that people’s mindset is changing.
“Not only Nauman came here, but also supported our team in all aspects… from encouraging youth to volunteers in all fields. The way he supported the event was a huge testimony and recognition for us.
“Now we are so happy because we got the clearance and backing from the entertainment industry of Pakistan,” said Ahmed.
“His (Ijaz’s) participation is a breakthrough for Pakistanis both in and outside the country.”
