Karachi: SSGC has intensified its operations against theft in its franchise areas. The operations wing of the Company’s Control Gas Theft Operations (CGTO) conducted a raid on a plastic moulding factory preparing plastic crockery, located in Orangi Town sector 15-A area. The owner of the factory was stealing gas from a direct main gas pipeline through a fake meter for running power generator of 31 KVA. FIR has been lodged against the culprit Muhammad Faheem s/o Muhammad Naseem.
In Hyderabad, different raiding parties conducted a crackdown on industries and commercial units. The party dedicated to rein in industrial theft raided M/s. Indus Dyeing in Site Area Hyderabad. The target was selected based on consumption pattern through a 4c Wireless modem. As per the documents provided by the factory Manager, the customer had its load approved at approximately 123,416 cft/hr whereas the actual physical load was around 171,289 cft/hr (13.703 Mega Watt). The factory was thus found involved violating the Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) signed with the Company and was operating in violating Gas Theft and Recovery Act 2016. SSGC’s Measurement Department recommended disconnecting the gas supply.

Total load was 253 CFT/hr with 2.5 PSIG pressure. Meter and regulator were removed and gas supply was disconnected.
Yet another raid was conducted by SSGC’s Task Force along with the Security Services, SSGC police and DSM West zone at Lashari Mohalla in old Golimar, Karachi where the culprit was stealing gas from main line through rubber pipes. The team disconnected the meter and removed the rubber pipes, fake meters and service connection.

Total load was 800 CFT/hr. Direct clamps were removed and gas supply was disconnected. Summarily, FIR was lodged against the culprits.
Theft of gas affects the SSGC financial bottom line in millions of rupees, thus contributing to the rising UFG volumes.
