Oslo, Norway (By/Ahmed Tanveer): The huge Figures from the Infectious Diseases Notification System (MSIS) show that 3,594 fewer people were registered than on the same day last week. On 24 January 2022, FHI made major changes to the test system, so that fewer corona infections are registered in MSIS. Because of this, figures after 25 January are not comparable to the figures before. The change means that more people no longer need to take a PCR test after testing positive for self-test, and thus the infection is not registered with FHI. However, people are encouraged to register positive tests with their municipality. FHI now uses more ways to monitor the pandemic than infection rates. The main gripe is to keep an eye on hospitalizations. On Monday, 353 corona patients were hospitalized. That was 24 more than the day before. 36 of the patients are in intensive care, of whom 25 receive ventilator treatment. There are six fewer people in intensive care and the same number of ventilators compared to the day before, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Health's overview.
In the last seven days, an average of 19 799 corona infections have been registered per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 18,594, so the trend is rising. A total of 1 049 811 people have now tested positive for corona in Norway, according to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. A total of 1,513 corona-infected people have died in Norway since March 2020, preliminary figures show. On 22 January 2022, 24 958 infected people were registered in Norway, which is the highest daily number so far with the old test system. On 9 February 2022, 26 109 infected people were registered in Norway, which is the highest daily number so far with the new test system.
