In 3rd raid, it was observed that an unregistered customer was using gas directly through rubber pipe clamped on existing service line for running a dairy shop. Total load obtained was approximately 435 CFT/HR with 5.5 Psig pressure. Claims are being raised and FIRs are being lodged.
On the other hand, the Task Force of SSGC’s Customer Relations Department conducted a raid in Gulshan View Apartment in Karachi’s Scheme 33. The raiding team discovered that 40 flat owners out of 360 were involved in stealing gas from main line through rubber pipes. All rubber pipes and fittings used in the illegal activity were removed.

Meanwhile in Quetta, the Customer Relations team conducted a raid on a domestic customer who was caught using gas for commercial usage of power generation. Total connected load was found to be 425 cft per hr. Two raids were also conducted on commercial customers who were found using domestic gas through a tampered meter for running a tandoor shop. Total connected load was found to be 1640 cft per hour. In all the three cases, meters were disconnected and sent for lab testing.

SSGC has been conducting regular raids on domestic, commercial and industrial theft cases in its franchise areas of Sindh and Balochistan and have been prosecuting criminals under Gas (Theft and Recovery) Act 2016. Gas theft is a major cause of Unaccounted-for-Gas or line losses, a phenomenon which is impacting the company’s financial bottom-line.
