KARACHI (PR): The No. of registered workers/employees with Employees old Age Benefits Institution(EOBI) have been raised over 5 million, across the country, it was disclosed by Director General(Operations) Mr. Javed Iqbal during a performance review meeting at EOBI Head Office Karachi.
He said that during the month of Nov.2012, the Institution disbursed Rs.1,093 million amongst 456,998 EOBI pensioners, which includes 293,921, oldage,7,621 disabled, 133,140 survivors pensioners & 212 Old Age grant holder. On this occasion Mr. Javed Iqbal again reminded the employer’s community, that it is mandatory under EOB Act.1976 that every establishment where 5 or more workers are employed, must register themselves & their workers/employees with EOBI within one month time and make sure payment of their share of contribution as well as of their workers, so that the future of workers & their families can be protected under Employees Old Age Benefits Scheme. Any violation & non compliance with the law and rules will not be tolerated in this regard and punitive action will be initiated against such employers.
To achieve the above goal, there are 80 Regional & field offices working throughout Pakistan, as a result of strenuous efforts by the field force of the Institution we have succeeded to register 88,014 establishments. He also informed that besides the EOBI Pension, the EOBI Registration card holders may also avail the different facilities provided by Worker Welfare Fund(WW F).The present Govt. also introduced Self employed persons registration with EOBI i.e. shopkeepers, drivers, home based workers etc. by payment of self contribution.
He also advised the field force of the Institution to work hard to achieve the allocated target of registration of employers and employees, so that the Institution may provide pensionary benefits to the poor working class.
