KARACHI: Trade between Russia and Pakistan should be much more than the present $500 million, as it does not reflect the potential of economic relations between both countries. This was said by Russian Federation Consul General Mr Oleg N. Avdeev at a dinner hosted in his honour by Chairman Pakistan Russia Business Council of FPCCI Mr Muhammad Farooq Afzal. The Russian envoy said he would avail this opportunity to speak on bilateral relations, particularly trade and economy.

Mr Avdeev said trade between Russia and Pakistan was increasing at a slow pace. He said the potential is great, but had not been tapped in full. Various efforts are underway to improve the situation but progress is not impressive. He said he had high hopes that the bilateral commission on trade and economy relations which is to meet later this year would strive to improve matters but stressed the need for private enterprise to play its role in promoting and increasing bilateral trade. He asked Pakistani businessmen to establish contacts with their counterparts in Russia.
