MORE EFFECTIVE MEASURES NEEDED BY AREA POLICE TO CURB THE CRIMES AND IMPROVE LAW & ORDER SITUATION IN THE SITE AREA: MUHAMMAD IRFAN MOTON-CHAIRMAN,S.I.T.E. ASSOCIATION OF INDUSTRY.

Karachi (04.08.2012):  A meeting was held in the office of S.I.T.E. Association of Industry under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Irfan Moton, Chairman, S.I.T.E. Association of Industry with Mr. Iqbal Mehmood, Additional IGP, Karachi and other Police officers accompanied with him. Mr. Muhammad Irfan Moton welcoming expressed that the Prime objective of the meeting was to interact and discuss the increasing trend of crimes and law & order situation in the biggest industrial estate of the country i.e. SITE in the District West, Karachi due to which the industrialists being very much perturbed and wish that police force of the SITE Zone be vigilant to control the criminal activities otherwise, it would be very difficult for the industrialists to carry on their business. He said that when an industrialist feels his life and property as unsecured and uncertain then how he would run the industry so it is important to maintain the law & order situation to the entire satisfaction of all concerned.

He further said that, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah in the recent visit of S.I.T.E Association of Industry wherein IGP and high ranking police officials were also present had assured the business community that law and order in the area would improve after   posting of 500 police force, provision of more mobile vans and motorbikes but no tangible progress is being felt in the area.

Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, Chairman, Sindh Board of Investment said that the situation in the SITE Area has become worse and needs immediate attention and we do hope that after taking the charge of Additional IG Police by Mr. Iqbal Mehmood, the more effective measures would take place to be felt satisfactory to the industrialists of the area.

Mr. Younus M. Bashir, Senior Vice President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry / Chief, SITE Crime Monitor Cell welcoming all the participants suggested reviving intelligence system of police which would be helpful to trace the criminals and their backing elements. The entry/exit points warrants keen monitoring to control such criminals elements so it is the need of hour that police be posted on these points to be remain alert around the clock, he further said. The Shortage of Police Strength / Police Mobile Vans / Motorcycles are one of the reasons that the culprits escape from the police grips which needs to be revisited. The business community of SITE Area has always been on forefront to cooperate with Police officials and do expect the friendly and result oriented attitude from the police as well. The kidnapping of loaded vehicles was also pointed out. He stressed that night patrolling by the well equipped police officials be increased for effective control of crimes.

It was also suggested that vigilance and availability of police officials at the areas / roads against street crimes / mobile snatching from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 (noon) and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily demands stern measures that no such street crime may occur particularly in peak hours because of heavy vehicular traffic / traffic congestion.

It was also pointed out that police do not take any quick action on the complaints of industrialists. This needs to be taken care.

Mr. Iqbal Mehmood, Additional IGP, Karachi thanked the chair for providing opportunity to discuss Law & Order situation which would surely be controlled and brought to the level of satisfaction of industrialists of SITE area. He issued directions to DIG, West that a working be made for the present force and force required alongwith Motorbikes present and required to curb the criminals. He directed that 27 identified Pickets and 3 Check posts be immediately provided the police force for rampant action against the criminals. The SITE Area be divided into 3 Zones and a police party under the head of Sub Inspector be immediately posted who will report to the concerned SHO’s. He also issued directions to DIG, West for immediate arrangement of police patrolling and Snap Checking of unauthorized Trucks/Pick up Stands, Jhopra Hotels and Puncture/Pan Shops in SITE Area. He assured the participants that follow up meeting in this regard shall be held on next Friday.
