SCP issues notices to Chairman PTA, PEMRA on promotion of objectionable matter on media


KARACHI: JULY 25, 2012. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has after converting a letter written to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for taking Suo Motto Notice on spread of nudity and culture of vulgarism, into the Constitutional Petition (CP) No. 104/2012 issued notices to stakeholders, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to appear before the Honourable SCP on first hearing scheduled on 27.7.2012.

The SCP Assistant Registrar Civil-II issued the notices wherein he had mentioned that the respondents should “Treat this matter as a petition under Article 184 (3) put up in Court. Notice to Attorney General, Chairman PEMRA and to petitioners be issued for 27.7.2012”.

The notice further stated that the matter has been registered as Constitutional Petition No. 104/2012 and is fixed for hearing on 27.7.2012 in the Court House, Islamabad.

It is pertinent to mention that Mr. Justice (retd.) Wajihuddin Ahmed, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, former Ameer Jamaat-e Islami Pakistan and Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, Ameer Jamaat-e Islami Karachi had sent letters to the SCP on the subject matter.
