Karachi, April 17: Minister for Education Pir Mazhar ul Haq, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Media Sharmila Faruqui  and Minister Women Development Department Ms. Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto have expressed their deep sorrow over the demise of mother of Nazir Leghari (Senior Journalist and Editor of Daily Awam Karachi). In their condolence message they said that Almighty Allah might bless the departed soul and give courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss. Amen.


Karachi, April 17:  Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, said that the formation of Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) is a breath of fresh air for both the countries. Despite existing political upheavals and sensitive socio-cultural issues, the push for economic collaboration from business community across the border has always been explicit. This he said while holding a meeting at his office.

Muhammad Zubair Motiwala said that the economic platforms are eagerly rethinking their bilateral relationship and discussions are underway with respect to reviving the economic ties, curtailing smuggling and preventing flow of prohibited goods. This pressing need was sensed by business representatives in both the countries and they mutually agreed to establish a cooperative body on a private initiative in order to bring the business communities of the two countries closer together. He said this dream was realized when Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established and its offices started functioning in February 2012. The entity is duly recognized and licensed by Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as well as Government of Pakistan. In its first board meeting held on March 13th, 2012, Mr. Muhammad Zubair Motiwala was unanimously chosen as President and Mr. Khan Jan Alokozai as Co-President of the PAJCCI board. Mr. Motiwala expressed his belief that the existing trade volume of $3 billion can be enhanced to $6 billion in next three years with the active role of PAJCCI members. He also emphasized that the major benefit of this Chamber will be the saving of losses to national exchequer being caused by smuggling under the garb of Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).

The Secretary General PAJCCI, Ms. Faiza Nasir briefed the meeting regarding core objective of this trans-border arrangement which is not only to transform the economic landscape of the South and Central Asian region but also to facilitate peace prospects and to curb extremism and terrorism. The Chamber was established having members of Business and Industrial community with a motive to provide level playing field for promoting the bi-lateral trade and investment, ensuring transfer of technology, exploring new trade opportunities and areas of mutual interests, alleviating illegal trade and promoting positive image of both the countries across the globe. In addition to that, the Chamber shall constitute an Arbitration Tribunal / Committee to which the members may refer for settlement of all those cases of dispute arising out of their commercial transactions. It was agreed mutually that this platform will not only resolve trade based issues amicably but would strategize on the macro-level to facilitate respective Governments to revive bi-lateral political relationship as well, in the greater interest of both the countries. She said under the visionary leadership of Mr. Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, the Chamber will facilitate Pakistan to gain access to the Central Asian States via Afghanistan and would further enhance the trade opportunities. The Chamber will serve to ensure win-win situation for all stakeholders and will serve as a body to enhance trade relations between two brotherly nations without succumbing to any unrelated political or cultural influence.


Karachi, April 17: Chief Secretary Sindh, Raja Muhammad Abbas has advised the Secretary Works & Services to ensure completion of the roads, in the rain affected areas, qualitatively, so that no fear of damages could appear in the forth coming monsoon.

            He was presiding a high level review meeting regarding the functions of Works & Services Department. Raja Muhammad Abbas directed the secretaries of Agriculture, Education & Health Departments to furnish the progress of their civil work for 2011-12 showing the allocation and utilization status within 02 days. He also desired to call department-wise meetings, within the current fortnight, to this effect.

            Earlier, Secretary Works & Services Mr. Alam Din Bullo informed the meeting that during current year 2011-2012, 589 schemes were undertaken. Of those 147, were new, ongoing were 439 and Federally funded were 03, having the estimated cost for new scheme Rs.2368.506 million, for ongoing Rs.7038.224 million and for Federal funded Rs.1343.270 million i.e., all 589 schemes have on estimated cost work Rs.10750.00 million.

            Chief Secretary Sindh also emphasized that all Departments must enhance liaison with Works & Services Department for in time completion of the civil work.

            Those who attended the meeting include Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Malik Asrar Hussian, Secretary Works & Services Alam Din Buloo, Secretary Implementation Rizwan Ahmed, Special Secretary Finance Department Ejaz Ahmd Khan and other senior officers.


Karachi, April 17: Home Department, Government of Sindh has under section 144 Cr.P.C. prohibited the movement of wheat outside the limits of adjourning Districts of Ghotki, Jacobabad and Shahdadpur @ Kambar of the province to Balochistan for a period of thirty (30) days with immediate effect.
