MOTOR VEHICLE TAX RECOVERY CAMPAIGN STARTS FROM OCTOBER 15 – MUKESH KUMAR CHAWLA

Karachi September 23: Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that Motor Vehicle Tax Recovery campaign will be launched from October 15, inspite of 24 September. The cause of delay is heavy rains in Sindh. For recovery campaign 13 teams have been constituted in Karachi while in other parts of the province the teams will work under ETOs concerned. This he said while talking to a group of mediamen here at his camp office today.

He said that due to heavy rains in Sindh, it was not feasible to start motor vehicle tax recovery campaign on September 24 and if it did so, the desired goals could not be achieved. He added, ‘During this campaign, the vehicles will not only be impounded that have not paid tax but they will also be fined. These impounded vehicles will be released after payment of tax and fine.’ Provincial Minister asked the owners of the vehicle to pay the due taxes timely to avoid any unpleasant situation. Timely recovery of taxes would enable the government to complete development projects in time. He told that during July 2012 Rs. 257 millions were received in head of motor vehicle tax while in July 2012 Rs. 329 millions were received in head of property tax.

OPPOSITION SHOULD NOT TRY TO MISGUIDE THE PEOPLE – JAM MEHTAB HUSSAIN DEHAR 

Karachi, September 23: Provincial Minister for Revenue Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar has said that the relief work is in progress in Obaro and its adjacent areas which were badly affected by recent rains. Despite limited resources Sindh Government is actively working in rain-affected districts of Sindh. This he said while talking to media men visiting and monitoring relief work here at Obaro on today.

He said that it was a f\act that hundred year record of rains had broken in Sindh, however, Prese3nt democratic government, under leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and guidance of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, was busy in relief work in rain – hit districts of Sindh. He added, ‘Medicines, ration, pure drinking water and other necessities of life are being provided to rain affected people.’ Provincial Minister said that problems were more, resources were limited, but our determination to help out the masses was also high. In this critical condition the importance of NGOs could not be denied. They should come forward and coordinate with the government in relief work.

Jam Mahtab said, ‘No negligence will be tolerated in relief work. Nawaz Sharif and its party have no place in Sindh. Sharif brothers should pay attention towards the plight of Punjab. He should not try to be champion of Sindh.’ He appreciated the role of media in highlighting the issues. General Elections were drawing near. Workers of Pakistan People Party should prepare themselves for elections. He requested the people not be misguided by the opposition because government stood by them in this difficult time.

ALL EFFORTS BEING TAKEN TO REDRESS THE PROBLEMS OF RAIN-HIT PEOPLE – MUKESH KUMAR CHAWLA

Karachi, September 23: Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that relief work is in progress in rain – affected districts of Sindh. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has issued strict directives to complete relief work in time. This he said while talking to various delegations here in camp office today. He said that all efforts were being taken to redress the problems of rain-hit people.

He said that during his Sindh visit President Asif Ali Zardari had issued directives to help out fully and timely to rain-hit people of Sindh. The people of Sindh would not be left alone in this difficult time. Whole Pakistan was with them. Provincial Minister added ‘All worst affected districts including Kashmore, Kandhkot are being provided ration, medicines, tents and other commodities to rain affected people. People have been shifted to safer places.’
Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that rain water was being drained out present democratic government was following vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and serving the masses.

He said, ‘Those who criticize the government have no value in the eyes of the masses. People of Pakistan are with Pakistan Peoples Party.’

A CZECH GROUP PREPARES TO LAUNCH EURO 600.00 MN STEEL VENTURE IN PAKISTAN

Karachi September 23: A delegation of Santex Pakistan Limited (SPL) apprised Murad Ali Shah, Finance Minister and Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chairman Sindh Board of Investment about their Steel Billets Making Plant (1.2 million ton annual capacity) and 300MW Coal-fired Power Plant during a meeting at Sindh Board of Investment office. The project would be launch at Bin Qasim Town close to Pakistan Steel Mills. SPL is a subsidiary of Santex Group based in Czech Republic.

Muhammad Ashraf, Director SPL informed the meeting that a cooperation agreement with the suppliers has been concluded and project financing has been secured on the September 10, 2012 during the recent Brno International Trade Fair in Czech Republic. SPL has also paid the full amount of equity for the project and is planning to formally announce the project and financial close during the month of October 2012 at a befitting ceremony in Prague.

The 300MW Coal Base Power Plant has excess capacity of more than 150MW that would be made available to the national grid. It was also told that the project would be delivered on turn-key basis and completed in 2 ½ years i.e. by June 2015.

Murad Ali Shah appreciated SPL for their effort and assured complete support of the Government of Sindh in the project that shows the increased confidence of serious foreign investors in Pakistan’s economy and abundance of business opportunities.

SPL Team expressed their complete confidence in Pakistan and thanked the Minister Finance and Chairman, Sindh Board of Investment for their patronage and assurance of support for this venture.

On the occasion Brig. (r) Mohtaram of SPL, Secretary Finance Arif Ai Khan, Secretary Coal and Energy Eijaz Ali Khan, Secretary Energy & Power Sohil Rajput, Director General SBI Riazuddin, Director Coal Shahab Ansari and other officers were also present.
