SSGC intensify raids on illegal connections; accused nabbed, FIRs lodged

KARACHI (PR): SSGC’s Counter Gas Theft Team conducted two raids in different areas of Karachi. The team conducted a raid against direct use of gas at Nawab’s Dynasty Restaurant,  located in  Zamzama, DHA. Culprits were found consuming a volume of   970 cubic feet of gas illegally through a direct line. SSGC police arrested Hotel Manager Mohammad Ali and lodged an FIR against the owner of the Hotel. The Company has also cut the gas connection of the said restaurant.

Another raid in Saeedababad, Baldia Town was conducted by Gas Theft Team in which a culprit Abdul Sattar was found supplying electricity to shops and private houses through a 22.5 KVA gas generator on illegal direct connection. FIR has been lodged against the culprit and an estimated claim of Rs. 1.7 million will be raised against the offender.

SSGC has expressed its determination to uproot the menace of gas theft. Whenever required, the SSGC raiding parties will also seek the assistance of Pakistan Rangers’.

The Gas Theft Control and Recovery Act, 2016 passed by the National Assembly in 2016 and the recent establishment of Gas Theft utility courts have given the gas utilities the mandate to take an unprecedented legal action against them.
