Karachi (PR)– The 14th Western China International Fair (WCIF) and Conference kicks starts at Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province in central China today, the 23rd October 2013.
Zubair Ahmed Malik, President FPCCI and Tariq Sayeed, former President of SAARC CCI, FPCCI and patron-in-chief of Pak-China Business Council Pakistan have already left for China on invitation of CCPIT, Sichuan Province. They will address the Conference and represent the Private Sector of Pakistan at activities oragnised on the side line of the 5-day Fair.
“More than 50 countries, including Pakistan and South Asian countries have displayed their products at the exhibition. Around 100 enterprises from Pakistan are exhibiting their goods at the fair wherein Pakistan’s official participation is being organized by FPCCI. The crowd was attracted to Pakistani handicrafts, leather goods, furniture, food items including rice and spices as well as gift items” informed Zubair Ahmed Malik, President FPCCI, adding that mutual trade between Pakistan and China had exponentially increased during the past decade, and this upward trend was likely to continue in future as well, enabling the two countries to cross the $15 billion figure earlier than expected.
Tariq Sayeed, former President SAARC CCI said that this annual feature has helped in giving exposure to Pakistani and South Asian products in vast Market of China as a result of that trade between South Asia countries and China has been increasing with rapid pace since the inception of the event in 2002 which would eventually help South Asian countries and Pakistan to reduce their trade deficit with China.
In the previous fair, the estimated sale of Pakistani exhibitors reached RMB 5 million despite fierce competition from other Asian countries selling similar products.
The exhibitors included 22 companies from Fortune 500 corporations including Cisco, Datang Telecom, Oracle, State Grid, Panasonic, LG, Dell, Veolia, Shell, Diageo and Fujitsu. In addition, altogether more than 1700 enterprises from other provinces of China are attending the fair.
During the WCIF-2012 investments projects worth RMB 1000 billion were signed. Also a trade turnover of RMB 252 billion was recorded, an increase of 11.2% compared to the 11th WCIF. The 14th fair is likely to attract some 80,000 big buyers.
WCIF is a state-level international exhibition co-hosted by 15 ministries of central government and 12 provinces (Including autonomous regions and one municipality), along with Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. WCIF is held annually in Chengdu, Sichuan and it has been staged for 13 sessions. It is based on the western region to seek for national and worldwide development. It serves as an important platform in the western region for investment promotion, trade cooperation and diplomatic service, a major carrier for the Chinese government to put forward the West-to-West Cooperation, East-to-West Cooperation and Domestic-Overseas Cooperation, as well as the biggest portal and most significant platform for the opening-up of Western China.
