Ex office bearers of SUTA make hostage the meeting of general body; get a member beaten up severely, a vast majority of teachers announce elections of SUTA on October 01, nominate chairman of election committee
JAMSHORO: The ex office bearers of Sindh University teachers association (SUTA) have refused to announce the date for elections of the body despite a severe demand made by a vast majority of members in general body’s meeting held in Sheikh Ayaz Auditorium of Arts Faculty at University of Sindh.
According to a statement issued here by university spokesman, the meeting of general body of SUTA was made hostage by ex office bearers Arfana Malah, Azhar Shah, Amar Sindh and Rabia Memon and did not let the teachers state their point of view.
When the meeting started at 11 am, the office bearers came with coerces and turned a deaf ear to the demands of the majority of members of SUTA. But amid tightened scuffle and fracas, Professors Munir Soomro, Irfan Memon, Imdad Soomro, Shafqat Qadri, Ishaq Samejo, Ahsan Shah Rashidi, Dr Asad Ali Shaikh, Agha Riaz, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr Abdul Jabbar Laghari and other members succeeded to come up at the dice and called on the office bearers of SUTA to announce the elections at earliest so that the members are able to elect new representatives at their behest. Similarly they wanted to present a resolution in favour of announcing the date for the elections of the body. At this nuisance was made by SUTA leaders to disperse the peaceful members in order to foil the attempt of presenting the resolution. Meanwhile Inam Kubar and others of Reformist Group attacked on the professor of chemistry Dr Abdul Jabbar Laghari and bit him up severely resulting which the tearing of his clothes. But Arfana Malah with her other cronies kept seeing the scene instead of eschewing the situation.
The teachers later recorded their protest in front of the members of university syndicate and office bearers of FAPUASA demanding the action against the group. Finally they on behalf of the gigantic majority of teachers announced the date October 01, 2012 for elections of SUTA and nominated Professor Abdul Ghaffar Wasandani as chairman for the election committee. The teachers said SUTA is a welfare body of teachers not a personal property of anybody; we will be holding the elections at any price.
Thus the majority of like minded group of teachers walked out of the general body meeting and condemned the behavior of ex office bearers of SUTA.
Professor Munir Soomro, Ahsan Shah Rashidi and others said that the SUTA office bearers had had Dr Laghari attacked by their cronies brought in the meeting of general body from outside adding that they created such a worst situation only to pressurize the peaceful teachers in an attempt to pave way for imposing their personal agenda and to bulldoze other rights, but we would not panic from such tactics of uncivilized persons and be fighting for our rights.
The President of FAPUASA for Sindh Chapter Usman Keerio himself admitted in the meeting that scarcely 100 members were present in the meeting out of 600 faculty members; so no any resolution can be passed by SUTA office bearers because at least 50 % existence of the teachers are necessary for maintaining a co rum”, Ahsan Rashidi said adding that despite incomplete co rum, Arfana Malah, Azhar Shah and others tried to pass the resolutions of their own consent and will.
