PM saddened on Ali Geelani’s death, announces day of official mourning

ISLAMABAD, Sep 2 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday expressed condolence over the death of Kashmiri freedom fighter Syed Ali Geelani and announced a day of official mourning.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kashmiri freedom fighter Syed Ali Geelani who struggled all his life for his people & their right to self-determination,” the prime minister said on Twitter.

He said late Geelani suffered incarceration and torture by the Occupying Indian state but remained resolute.

“We in Pakistan salute his courageous struggle & remember his words: “Hum Pakistani Hain Aur Pakistan Humara hai” (We are Pakistani and Pakistan belongs to us),” he remarked.

The prime minister also announced that the Pakistan flag would fly at half-mast as the country would observe a day of official mourning.
