Due to the hot weather, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) on Monday placed the districts of Castelo Branco, Faro, Portalegre, and Guarda in a special red level alert status, due to the aggravation of the fire risk.
The most serious state of alert for the four districts remains until the end of today, said the assistant of operations of ANEPC Mário Silvestre. The four districts were already in a state of orange alert, the second most serious.

The alert status starts from today and extends the alert status statement that had already been determined between 12:00 last Friday and midnight on Monday.
The decision, signed by the ministers of Defence, Internal Administration, and Environment, covers the districts of Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Santarém, Setúbal, Vila Real, and Viseu.
