JAMSHORO: As many as 814 meritorious students of different batches studying in various disciplines at the University of Sindh Jamshoro received cheques of Rs. 40,000 each as the second installment of Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship Phase-I here on Thursday.
Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro distributed the cheques among the deserving students at a ceremony held in Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium, Arts Faculty Building of the university which was organized by the Students’ Financial Aid Office (SFAO).
According to the details, a total number of 1299 students were selected for the Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship who received the first installment under phase-I last year, and thus they were again nominated for the second installment. However, as many as 814 were given away the cheques at the ceremony and the amount of other 208 students was transferred to their bank accounts while the remaining 485 undergraduates will receive their cheques on Friday (today).
Director Students Financial Aid Office Dr. Fiza Qureshi, Director Student Affairs Dr. Muhammad Younis Leghari, Director Languages Dr. Zainul Abidin Sodhar, Incharge Arts Faculty Building Sikandar Ali Soomro, Student Welfare Officer Allah Wadhayo Sahito, Incharge Director Security Kashif Narejo and other officers, employees, teachers, and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro congratulated the fortunate students who received the cheques and said that under Phase-I, a total of 1299 students received cheques of 2nd installment adding that the meritorious undergraduates of different Faculties except for the Faculty of Natural Sciences were given away cheques.
He further said that there were currently 14 different scholarships being given to the students at the University of Sindh, and these opportunities were reserved only for estimable students.
Dr. Kalhoro further said that 50% of the scholarships received under the Ehsas Scholarship were set aside for deserving female students adding that the students should work hard and make proper use of the scholarship money received to them.
“Soon the remaining outstanding and laudable students will also be given scholarships. I want all students to seek an amount through scholarship”, he said.
He said that the cheques under Ehsas Scholarship will be given to the students for four years, but the condition for which was that they should improve their academic performance.
The Vice-Chancellor said that some students had failed in some papers in the examination, but in an online meeting with the HEC authorities, the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities in Sindh succeeded to persuade them to release 2nd installment to even failures so that they might not face any difficulty in continuing their education.
“The failed students are being given the benefit of COVID-19 this time, hope they will improve their academic feat in the next semesters in order to incessantly issue them scholarship cheques”, he maintained.
Earlier, Director Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) Dr. Fiza Qureshi gave a detailed briefing on Ehsas Scholarship and the factors to get it and Nazar Hassan Chandio got the honor of reciting the Holy Quran.
